JC is RecycleSmart’s National Director of Operations and Marketing, where he leads and serves our operations teams to drive efficiencies and sustainability objectives, and directs marketing and communications initiatives to drive brand awareness and market engagement.

Prior to joining RecycleSmart, JC held several leadership positions at CleanMark Group including leading efforts throughout Western Canada and the U.S.A., with earlier fun times coming from BMW, Steam Whistle Brewing, Trader Media, and a few Big Bad Ad agencies.

JC earned his MBA at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC).

Leah is excited to be a part of Recycle Smart and back in the private sector. Prior to joining the team, she spent 6.5 years at the UBC Sauder School of Business where she was most recently the Operations Manager coordinating activities between the Dean’s Office and the Development and Alumni Engagement team. Leah brings her coaching and drive for efficiency to Recycle Smart which helps drive professional development, change management and helping make the company one of the best places to work. She doesn’t just help others grow and achieve their goals, she is currently completing her Human Resources Management Certificate to continually push herself. Although new to the industry, Leah has always been passionate about making the world better and even more so now that she has a young son. When she is not at work, you will most likely find her at different playgrounds or trying to burn off her son’s energy somewhere outside in this beautiful city.

As comfortable in a suit and tie as he is in jeans and a cowboy hat, Brent feels passionately about honesty, nurturing relationships and the customer experience. With over 16 years in the industry now under his belt (buckle), Brent has returned to his roots at RecycleSmart to provide simple, sustainable solutions to clients large and small. Brent spent over 11 years at WasteLess Environmental Services, one of Canada’s foremost environmental consulting organizations. He cut his teeth in customer service, followed shortly by sales and operations, eventually becoming the Regional Manager for all of western Canada. Brent also worked with Progressive Waste Solutions as a Major Sales Representative, where he honed his skills while learning another side of the industry. Coming ‘home’ to RecycleSmart, Brent feels he’s reached his niche in working side by side with his clients to find the perfect solutions to their waste and recycling needs. Brent loves spending time with his twin son and daughter, gardening and going to rodeos. Yeehaw!

Eric has over 20 years of experience in all facets of B2B sales & service, from Inside sales to Executive sales leadership. Most of this experience comes in National accounts and global sales capacity, he brings a deep knowledge of both net new acquisition as well as retention management. When not at work you can find him cheering on one of many Toronto based sport teams, with his wife and three sons.

Dan is a seasoned, insightful and hands-on business development executive who has demonstrated ability to think strategically, act tactically and lead by example. Dan has been an advocate of innovative technologies and sustainable “business process” solutions
for over 20 years in Canada and is very excited about working with Team RecycleSmart, a recognized leader in commercial waste management and recycling solutions. 

Adrian has close to seven years of business development and account management experience. His career started out in a boiler room type setting making hundreds of cold calls per day in order to put together industry specific conferences for buyers and sellers. He then developed a passion for the environment through working for a waste hauler in territory management. He is very much into personal development books and audios. The Dale Carnegie’s and John Maxwell’s of the world have inspired him to always be open to learning, growing, and failing forward. Outside of work, Adrian enjoys lifting weights and meeting new people in all sorts of places around Toronto. His Pit Bull, Stella, keeps him busy on long walks through the city.

Sarah is passionate about environmental sustainability and believes that responsible waste management is incredibly important for the health of the planet. She consistently limits her contributions to the landfill and is dedicated to helping others do the same. Upon the completion of her Bachelor of Commerce, Sarah worked in client relations for four years where she fine-tuned her administrative and customer service skills. She returned to school to pursue a Masters of Resource and Environmental Management at Dalhousie University where she gained employment at the Dalhousie Office of Sustainability. Throughout her graduate program and subsequent employment, Sarah successfully completed a research project to increase the diversion of laboratory waste from the landfill. Sarah enjoys reading, painting, playing music and spending time in her garden.

David started in the waste and recycling industry in 1984 with BFI as a salesperson moving to Sales Supervisor and later as Account Manager – Manufacturing and Industrial Segment for Alberta. In 2000, he was included in the part acquisition of BFI Calgary by Waste Management moving from salesperson to Account Manager, when segmentation sales was instituted, and then to Senior Account Manager – Alberta in the manufacturing & Industrial segment. He joined The Garbage Company, a locally owned company, in an Account Manager role in 2011 through March 2015. During this time GFL Environmental acquired the company in January 2014. Outside of work, he spend lots of time with family and the grandchildren, travel and explore whether it be locally into the mountains or to sunny warm climates and even Las Vegas at times, checking out points of interest/history in Alberta, some amateur photography, some golfing and just enjoying nature.

Brandy began her career in the waste industry 7 years ago with Wasteless Environmental Services working as a customer service representative and quickly moved her way into operations (never one for an office setting). She became known as the jane of all trades as she worked her way through every department within the company only to realize that operations is where she belonged. When Wasteless was bought out by Waste Management she opted to take the early retirement package which gave an extra 6 months to spend with her new baby girl. Now that baby is grown Brandy is back now spending her time installing sensors and monitors on waste bins and once again teaching clients about recycling and organics. She has a passion for sustainability and a true love for animals.

With over 20 years of account management and sales experience, Nelson brings his passion and personal commitments to sustainable business practices to work with him everyday. Nelson has come from a background in finance and media and most recently worked with an organization called Climate Smart, working with companies to reduce their carbon footprint. In joining the Recycle Smart Solutions team he has found his niche. Building trust and understanding allows him to be a reliable working partner with his clients in developing a prosperous green economy. Outside of the office Nelson can be found with his family and dog Mojo, riding, hiking and camping around beautiful BC. On his own you will find him riding slowly on his 1934 Cruiser while pedestrians pass him walking.

Sharon holds true to her passion and commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. With over 25 years of experience working for municipal and provincial governments, environmental consulting and specializing in electronic recycling, Recycle-Smart Solutions is a perfect fit to harness her experience and energy. Sharon enjoys spending time with her family, sailing, golf and traveling…anything to be outside!

Ron comes to RecycleSmart with over 15 years of waste and recycling industry experience. Most recently he was the Account Sustainability Manager for Cascades Recovery in Edmonton. Before that he spent over 7 years with Waste Management as an Account Manager where he managed a portfolio of $6 M per year. During his time at WM he was an Emerald Circle Award Winner and was instrumental in kick starting the new Molok service for the Edmonton market. Ron has been married 15 years to his wife Tracy has two girls, Jessica 11 and Kendra who is 9. In the summertime he likes to spend time camping with the family and spending time outdoors. Ron loves watching hockey and is a big Edmonton Oilers fan… sorry Jeff. The sales group is excited to add Ron’s experience to the team and look forward to seeing the future growth he will bring to RecycleSmart.

Having recently moved to Vancouver from London, England, Alastair is thrilled to be a part of the RecycleSmart team. He successfully attained a BA in Geography from Coventry University in 2015, before undertaking a MA in Geography at King’s College, London; graduating in 2016. Alastair developed a strong passion for helping others during several years of work experience in various coaching and customer service roles. Upon moving to Vancouver in April 2017, he gained experience in another one of his passions, waste management, with Dillon Consulting. Away from the office, you can find him saving shots on the soccer pitch, serving up aces on the tennis court, or enjoying the great outdoors with the many hikes or ski slopes around British Columbia and beyond.

With over 20 years of experience in account management and sales management, 10 of which has been spent in the waste industry, Cory prides himself on a strong work ethic. He recognizes that good environmental policy is good economic policy and values proven sustainable best practices. Cory has a background in sales and marketing and a track record of implementing successful environmental programs that have received international recognition. Most recently and something Cory is most proud of, was the development and implementation of North America’s first curb side battery recycling program, that serviced nearly 1.5 million households in Ontario, Canada. Building strong relationships with both his customers and coworkers through effective conversations, active listening, reliability and respect Cory is very excited to help Recycle Smart solutions grow as a company and promote a green economy. When Cory is not at work you will often find him being active, playing baseball, running his dogs Colby and Whiskey or relaxing at his family cottage.

Diana started in the waste business in 1994 with Laidlaw Waste and spent her first years working in customer service, sales and operations. In 1997 Diana joined WasteLess Environmental Services and spent the next 14 years working with one of the premier environmental consulting companies in Canada. She had various responsibilities at WasteLess as the company grew and ended her tenure there in the position of Vice President of Account Management. During her time at Wasteless Diana developed the client management software that allowed the company to grow into a multi-million-dollar business operating across North America. Diana has managed the procurement of waste and recycling services from coast to coast in Canada and several major US cities using a network of over 800 vendors. WasteLess was sold to Waste Management in 2011 and Diana remained during the transition until she chose a retirement package offered in 2015. Not quite ready for retirement, her golf game is terrible, Diana joined the Recycle Smart team in 2016. Diana has a BA from UBC and a Diploma in Environmental Technology from Mount Royal University. Diana is a busy mom of three but in her spare time she volunteers to teach English to New Canadians. She loves traveling, hiking and scuba diving.

Sunny’s interest in the environment and sustainable practices have been the engine behind her post-secondary education, and now, in her career. She has completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences at UBC and soon after has gone on to pursue an additional degree in Environmental Engineering at BCIT. Sunny’s professional experiences include working in the waste and recycling industry and in customer service. In her free time, she enjoys playing flag football and when she isn’t on the field, she’s always looking for the next great DIY project on Pinterest.

With her natural curiosity and drive to learn, Aileen is excited to join the RecycleSmart team. She lived in Montreal for a few years, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts & Science in Environment and Geography at McGill University. Building on her keen eye for details, she is taking Technical Writing courses at BCIT. Her work experience includes roles in logistics, administration, and customer service. She has held a variety of volunteer roles, which include working as an English teacher in Taiwan and a nature educator at the Stanley Park Ecology Society. Aileen enjoys photography, travel, hikes (with the occasional backpacking trip), and punny jokes. She has a bad habit of starting too many books at once.

Originally from Toronto Ontario, Hussain is excited to be part of the RecycleSmart team. After graduating high school Hussain pursued a post secondary education studying Criminology at Douglas College and eventually SFU. Having to keep pace with tuition fees and expenses without a full time job, Hussain started his first business providing digital marketing services to pay his way through school. In the process going to school Hussain discovered his preference for being in the work force at a young age; Hussain went on to work at Shaw Cable Systems and Rogers Communications. Hussain brings 7+ years of customer service, sales, and supervisory experience. When he is not working hard in the office he can be found playing hockey, golf, ping pong, or reading a book, watching his beloved Maple Leafs miss the playoffs. Again….

Mackenzie’s passion for sustainability was sparked in high school and has influenced her decision making since then. She completed her Bachelor of Environmental Studies, majoring in Environment and Business at the University of Waterloo. After she graduated, she moved to the west coast (best coast!) from Ontario to pursue her career. Mackenzie has held various customer service roles and is excited to grow with the team at Recycle Smart. When she’s not helping our customers, Mackenzie can be found exploring all the Pacific Northwest has to offer or caring for her many houseplants.

Eliza was born and raised in beautiful, rainy Vancouver. Her curiosity about the food industry led her to complete her Bachelor of Science in Food Nutrition and Health at the University of British Columbia. During her undergraduate degree under the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, Eliza studied global issues in the areas of health, sustainable food systems, and caring for the earth’s limited resources. Eliza always knew that she wanted a career that involved her passion for creating positive change in both her relationships with people and in her community. Eliza has over 12 years of customer service experience over a wide range of industries: health and wellness, fashion retail, food service, and food manufacturing. Now she is excited to be a new addition to the awesome Customer Care team at Recycle Smart! Away from the office, Eliza loves Polynesian and hip-hop dancing, singing, going to concerts, writing Yelp reviews, or planning her next vacation to her favourite place: Hawaii!

Manny has worked in different roles in the recycling industry in British Columbia over the last 8 years. Working with Stewardship organizations as well as private haulers, Manny has a clear understanding of the challenges related to waste and recycling recycling. He has training and experience in conducting extensive waste audits and reporting working with Hotels, Shopping complexes, Office building and Educational institutions. Manny holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Royal Roads University. In his time away from the office Manny enjoys staying active by playing ice hockey.

Emma recently graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences. Throughout her degree, Emma engaged the UBC community in sustainable practices including recycling. In addition to her academic experience in data analysis, Emma brings her experience analyzing environmental policy and developing climate change resources. Emma’s passion for sustainability and interest in data analysis drew her to RecycleSmart and she is excited to join the team. In her free time, Emma enjoys taking photos outside, eating at all the amazing restaurants we have in Vancouver and trying out new recipes.

Having lived in the Netherlands all his life, Lex joined the RecycleSmart team as part of an internship programme. He spent the five years previous to coming to Canada obtaining a BSc degree in Tourism and an MSc degree in Environmental Systems Analysis which was finalized with thesis research on the application of satellite data for the assessment of ecosystem services. Through these academic experiences, combined with some exciting research projects in Portugal, Thailand and the Philippines, he developed a keen interest in environmental sustainability and geographical analysis. When not in the office, he can be found enjoying all the beautiful things British Columbia has to offer.

Before joining RecycleSmart, Sean has worked for many organizations leading the adoption of new technologies, with a current focus on how to shift business operations into the cloud. Sean has a unique perspective on the challenges with emerging technologies and how to turn Big Data into Big Information for RecycleSmart’s customers. When not in the office, Sean can be found along the walking trails in the Greater Vancouver Area or playing board games, with Arkham Horror making a routine appearance on the table.

Originally from Ghana West Africa, Robert started his career in Accounting as an audit officer having completed his second level in ACCA – UK and other correspondent management courses. Robert moved to Vancouver to further his studies and completed a Diploma in Accounting at Douglas College. He then switched to the supply chain management working as a material handler and moving operations coordinator for 5 years in warehouse logistics and is currently taking courses in Supply Chain Management. During this period, he managed his own commercial cleaning business for three years as a sub-contractor. On his spare time, he loves hiking and writing fictional novels and watching documentaries.

Shane joined the RecycleSmart team in 2017 and brings with him over 20 years of technology and service industry experience. The skills gained in these industries has allowed Shane to easily transition into his role in the waste and recycling industry. His devotion to providing an exceptional service experience to his clients allows Shane to excel as RecycleSmart’s Field Service Manager of Alberta. Though he has a passion for sustainability and the environment, Shane shows his green colours while rooting for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Another transplant to the west coast originally from Ontario, by way of Alberta, Craig joined Recycle Smart at the end of 2016. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, and a Chartered Accountant, he has worked in both private and publically traded industries, as a Controller and Chief Financial Officer. An avid hiker, he has climbed a significant number of the 46 mountains in the Adirondack high peaks area of upstate New York, and is anxious to explore the natural beauty of British Columbia. He will begin with all the usual touristy spots, such as the Capilano Bridge and Stanley Park, before moving onto hiking the West Coast Trail with his son.

Originally from Toronto, Tanya gradually made her way West, working in various departments in many of the larger hotel brands. In 2012, looking for a change she returned to school and graduated with a Diploma in Accounting from BCIT 2 years later. Working at RecycleSmart has allowed her to marry her customer service and accounting skills with her goals of leading a greener lifestyle. Outside of work she enjoys backyard beekeeping, gardening, scuba diving, snowshoeing and travel.

Jenny was born and raised in Hong Kong during her childhood time. She graduated from a BA degree in Economics at Simon Fraser University. She learned that a sustainable environment could be one of the major factors to affect economic growth. Since graduation, she has been working in the accounting field during the last few years. Currently, she is studying CPA prep modules at Langara College. She enjoys learning martial arts and cooking when she has spare time.

I was born and raised in a little country called Jordan and immigrated to Canada at the age of 7. I have always been fascinated with business so I moved on to acquire my Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting degree at KPU. My work experience has always been around customer service, from providing technical support to sales. I am always looking to diversify my knowledge in different industries which is one of the reasons I wanted to work for RecycleSmart Solutions. My hobbies and interests include cars, sports, and exploring the outdoors. Many of us take it for granted that we live in beautiful British Columbia, so every summer I commit to trying a new hike or to try an outdoor activity that I have yet to experience. Basketball is also a great passion of mine, with the Black Mamba (Kobe Bryant) being my favourite player (retired ). I actively play about 3 times a week, whether it be a drop in at the local rec centre or in a men’s league. I am extremely excited about the opportunity that has been given to me working with RecycleSmart. I look to gain experience not only in accounting, but in understanding the commitment to a greener environment.

Pejman earned his B.A in accounting from University of Tehran. He worked as an accountant for 10 years at a mid-sized construction company. After he moved to Vancouver he earned his Bookkeeping Certificate from Langara College with the goal of returning to his occupation in accounting. Since graduating from Langara College, he has been working as a bookkeeper and accountant. He is planning to start his CPA courses soon. Pejman is very excited to be part of the Recycle Smart team and at the same time contributing to a greener earth. Pejman also likes herbal medicine and nutrition. He worked in health food industries in Vancouver as well. He watches soccer, practices Qigong and goes swimming in his spare time.

Sima moved to Canada in September 2015 to start her studies in Accounting. She graduated from UBC with a Diploma in Accounting after two years, and now she is almost set to start CPA Program. Sima is super excited to start her accounting career at Recycle Smart where she can utilize her skills towards a meaningful purpose; Sustainable Earth. In her spare time, during the rainy days of Vancouver, she enjoys doing various types of crafts from ceramics to textile; but when Summer comes she starts her adventures into the woods. Sima is also very passionate about literature and poetry, which she believes are the best tools for man to share their unique perception of life.

Bruna is the top dog in the Richmond office. Bruna has many years of experience in napping in the sun, hunting for birds and generally being a dog. She enjoys treats of all kinds, ear rubs and getting to know all office visitors.

Benny aka: Bad Dog is our part time office dog. He may come across as a rough and tough enforcer but in reality he’s all bark with no bite. Will play fetch until you are tired….woof!

Samyoung is a recent transfer/rescue from South Korea. He is bilingual and still learning Canadian workplace culture from the other pups at the office. He enjoys naps, snuggling his toys, and all the free snacks!
